Feng Shui was developed over centuries of observation of the interactions between humanity and our environment. Chinese in origin, and meaning literally Wind and Water, the study and practice of Feng Shui evolved as a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine concerned with the flow of life force, or ch’i, in our surroundings. It is based largely on the Tao and its integral concepts of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements Theory, and on the eight trigrams of the I Ching, or Book of Changes.
During the latter half of the 20th century, professor Thomas Lin Yun developed the Black Hat Buddhist School of Feng Shui (BHS). BHS incorporated ancient Chinese wisdom with modern science to achieve the balance and harmony essential for one’s well-being. In addition to a careful study of the movement of ch’i through one’s environment, the practitioner of BHS Feng Shui utilizes the Bagua, or map, that enables us to determine where such aspects of life as Career, Knowledge, Family, Wealth, Fame, Marriage, Children and Benefactors may be most effectively addressed.
During a consultation, an assessment of both the exterior and interior of a site is made, and a confidential interview is conducted regarding the acquisition of the property and the current state of well-being of the inhabitants. Typically, the practitioner then supplies information and suggests adjustments in the environment to reach the recipients’ stated goals. The knowledgeable and skilled Feng Shui Practitioner is able to harness and manipulate the flow of energy in the environment for optimum benefit and comfort.
The Feng Shui Consultant is most helpful when selecting a new building site, when designing, remodeling or choosing a new home or place of business, or when moving in. Additionally, people may seek a consultation when an aspect of their life is not thriving, or conversely, to ensure that happiness continues.
